If you are looking for outdoor activities while visiting Carcassonne there are many to choose from in and around the city.

For the avid golfer, Carcassonne has a beautiful 18-hole course. This full service club offers carts, clubs and lessons. Everything you need to have a great round of golf.

If you are interested in water activities, there is lot of choice.  The lovely beach at Narbonne, 40 minutes from Carcassonne, offers many water activities.  You can spend the day scuba diving, sailing, jet skiing, snorkeling, kite surfing or just swim and relax on the beautiful sandy beach of the Mediterranean Sea.

If you are looking adventure closer to Carcassonne, consider a day of white water rafting, horseback riding, kayaking, or canoeing.

Tennis is also available at the local club for enthusiasts.  Court rentals and lessons are available by the hour.

Consider a leisurely bicycle ride along the canal.  Bikes are available for rent and the path is flat and navigable.

Hiking is also very popular in the region.  The Cathar Trail is 200 km of walkways passing through sloping vineyards, forests and valleys.  These exceptionally historical paths take you through many sites of Cathar history that should not be missed.

For total relaxation, consider the natural spa at Rennes-les-Bain located in a lovely village in the heart of Cathar country.

If enjoy watching sports, some popular events that take place in Carcassonne include the Tour de France as well as local and regional volleyball, rugby and tennis.

Languedoc is one of the best places in the world to go canal boating – with three canal systems weaving their way through hundreds of miles of beautiful countryside. In Carcassonne boats are available for rent at the Canal docks opposite the train station or you can relax and take a guided tour.

However you would like to spend your time outdoors, it is possible in the city and countryside of Carcassonne.
